NAF Investments Limited (NAFIL) has built an ultra modern tailoring workshop at the NAF Base in Kaduna. As a result, required military uniforms can now be sewn locally in large quantities. The idea of establishing the workshop was borne out of the desire to reinforce the culture of self-reliance, being one of the key drivers of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
Speaking while commissioning the facility yesterday, 8 June 2017, the CAS expressed delight at the establishment of the workshop by NAFIL, noting that it had always been his desire to see the NAF attain self-sufficiency in virtually all its needs.
The CAS was highly optimistic that the workshop would no doubt go a long way to ensure ample and timely provision of uniforms to personnel at low cost. It also has the value added advantage of serving as a training facility for NAF personnel of the Tailoring Specialty.
While delivering his welcome address, the Managing Director (MD) of NAFIL, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Bagare, disclosed that the workshop was set up to meet the standards obtainable in world class tailoring facilities, with a total of eighty-six different industrial tailoring machines. He added that the workshop came to fruition with about forty million naira rather than the previously planned arrangement with some foreign investors that would have cost the NAF hundreds of millions of Naira. In addition, the MD revealed that the initiative would help the NAF, other sister Services, schools and even the general public to meet their tailoring needs.
